Alexander H. Kaufman, Ph.D. (United States of America) is a sustainability and ESG expert with over two decades of experience across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, supporting international development, sustainable business practices, and capacity building. With a multidisciplinary background spanning academia, policy advising, and applied consulting, Alex has worked with leading organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Labour Organization (ILO), Rainforest Alliance, and the Asian Institute of Technology.
He has advised governments, chambers of commerce, agro-processors, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, sustainability reporting, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)- aligned practices. His portfolio includes designing ESG frameworks in Botswana and Ethiopia, leading training and reporting initiatives in the Maldives, and conducting living wage studies across the banana sector in Central and South America. Through roles in both multilateral agencies and field-based consulting, he has facilitated SDG/ESG capacity development and stakeholder engagement in over 10 countries.
Alex is recognized for his analytical depth, social auditing expertise, and thought leadership in responsible supply chains, sustainable agriculture, and ethical labor practices. He has published extensively on topics such as organic farming, sustainable business practices, and corporate social responsibility. Alex holds a Ph.D. in Environmental and Resource Studies from Mahidol University, a Master’s in Responsibility and Business Practice from the University of Bath, and a Bachelor’s degree in History and Third World Studies from the University of California, San Diego.
